Piano Section
The piano section of the Festival includes many classes, by genre, period, composer, age or grade. Premier Classes for more advanced players are described below. We provide a quality grand piano that is hired from and maintained by Steinway Pianos Ltd.

Emanuel Trophy Piano Competition
Premier Piano Competition
The Emanuel Trophy Piano Competition is the Festival’s top piano competitiion and is one of the most prestigious competitions within the festival movement. It was founded in 1985 by Emanuel Cedar (1916-2000). “Manny” entered North London Music Festival piano competitions as a young pianist, became a Festival Council Member in 1960 and Festival Chairman in 1975.

Hampstead Garden Suburb Residents Association Piano Prize
Premier Piano Class
This Piano Prize has been a component of the North London Festival since 2013. It is both a celebration of creativity centred around the piano repertoire, and a platform for talented pianists to exhibit their technical and artistic prowess. Since 2024 the Hampstead Garden Suburb Residents Association has sponsored this premier competition.

Senior Singers and Accompanists’ Prize
Premier Piano Competition
The Senior Singing and Accompanists’ Prize Competition also has a prize for the accompanists. It is open to pianists who are studying as undergraduates or post-graduates, as well as those who have graduated from a conservatoire within the last three years.
